Minutes of the Board of Directors meeting: March 11, 2008
Present: Katie Angle, Lisa Austin, Mike Beadles, Charles Breer, Mary Derks, Garry Glubka, Pete Hawkins, Kelly Hazel, Laurie Holm
Also present: Doug NelsonMINUTES: The minutes from the meeting of February 19, 2008 were approved with corrections.
REPORTS
- TREASURER: Mary Derks received mail relating to finances, in Tony Stifter’s absence, from Doug Nelson. The taxes will be completed by Paul Arsenault and filed on time.
- NEWSLETTER: Doug Nelson requested articles for the April deadline. Discussion ensued on amount of ads per newsletter. Mary Derks will contact Steve Scott with Lisa Austin to work out a thumbnail for different sized newsletters.
- RECOGNITION CORNER: Mary Miller, Greg Bistram, Jerry Nelson, Dick Ogren, and Jack Uttermark for their great representation of TCBC to existing and prospective members at County Cycles Open House on March 2. Also, Steve Scott and Lisa Austin for design and printing of the new brochure.
- OUTREACH UPDATE: Lisa Austin encouraged TCBC’s participation in the Minnesota Bike Summit on Saturday April 26 at Quality Bicycle Products. This event supports non-profit bike organizations in MN to work together in the areas of trail funding, education/promotion and event organization.
BUSINESS
BOARD 2008 FOCUS ITEMS
- ATLAS: Charles Breer and Lisa Austin reported on marketing the new atlas with 760 sold already.They are working on supplying the independent bike shops and other places. Large orders are in stores(eg Barnes and Noble) already. The new atlas will be available at special events (Swap Meet, Ironman) and can be ordered on line at the TCBC website, as well. A press release, kick off celebration is planned for Sunday April 20 with a White Bear Lake Loop club ride.
- PROMO ITEMS: Laurie Holm reported on Cafe Press, a website that offers merchandise such as bumper stickers, t-shirts, mugs, window clings, etc. Laurie will look into quality of items and distribution. Lisa Austin will add Mpls/St.Paul to the TCBC logo. Mary Derks will solicit volunteers for a committee to determine items in the next Announcement page. At the IRONMAN socks will be available for sale; map clips have been ordered.
- RIDE SCHEDULING SYSTEM: Mike Beadles announced the new members of the committee, Peter Fisher and Steve Oppel. The system will be live by the ride leader forum April 9. Web rides will no longer be noted as such.
- VOLUNTEERS: Mary Derks continues to collect duty descriptions from Key Volunteers with a survey of questions. She will send monthly duties to VIPS in a spread sheet.
- ADVOCACY/LAWS: Mike Beadles and Lisa Austin will find two days in June for a Road 1 class. Pete Hawkins will check REI for funding support. Lisa will look into availability of spots for Rochester's training in April for Road 1 and May for LCI training.
OTHER ITEMS
- RIDE GUIDELINES: Doug Nelson will look up AYH guidelines for review. TCBC guidelines will be posted live on the website.
- TCBC RANDONNEUR RIDES: Charles Breer will add this category to the ride chart, focusing on safety.
IRONMAN BOOTH: John Avoles will bring the booth to the swap meet. Mike Beadles will ask if he can also bring it to the Ironman. Mary Derks will ask for volunteers to staff the booth in two hour shifts on the Announcement page.- RIDE LEADER TRAINING: Pete Hawkins reported that 20 people have signed up to become new ride leaders on April 5th. With a 25 maximum, it may fill up. The Forum for returning ride leaders is on the following Wednesday evening and will offer a DVD for those unable to attend. Pete and Mike Beadles will look into offering a tire changing Bike U for the end of April.
- ST PAUL CLASSIC: Laurie Holm raised the question of renewing TCBC's sponsorship of this ride. If so, there is a need for new volunteers to provide helmet fittings and staff the club booth. Volunteers are also needed for the Minneapolis Bike Tour for the same activities.
