California Bay Area By Bike
April 2-11, 2004 - 8 nights

Our tour visits three regions of the Bay Area: Palo Alto, San Francisco, and Walnut Creek. We will stay at comfortable hotels, and use public transportation to travel between the cities. Six full days of road biking will give us a mix of rural and urban cycling with mileages from 30-60 miles. The terrain is hilly to mountainous and many roads have steep grades. This tour is appropriate for people in good to excellent cycling condition who are comfortable riding in traffic.

From Palo Alto we will ride three different routes into the Santa Cruz Mountains. While staying in San Francisco, we’ll cross the Golden Gate Bridge and cycle to the Golden Gate Recreational Area; a second day will find us biking in lower Marin County and taking a ferry to Angel Island for a 14-mile circuit. We will circle Mount Diablo from our third base of Walnut Creek and have the option to test our legs with a climb to the top.

The tour includes all hotels, six breakfasts, transportation between cities, transfer from Walnut Creek hotel to San Francisco Airport, maps, and a celebration dinner at the trip’s conclusion. All other meals, alcoholic beverages, air transportation to and from California, initial transfer from San Francisco Airport to Palo Alto, and miscellaneous charges will not be included in the above trip price.

Leader: Julie Timm.
