My old trainer is fast approaching retirement and I am looking at getting a new one. I'd like to solicit suggestions from folks. I've been looking at the Wahoo Kickr, Elite Drivo, Tacx Genius Smart, or the CycleOps Hammer Direct Drive. The price points are mostly similar (the Tacx one is considerably less) and I have a Tacx Bushido Smart from 10+ years ago. The Tacx software sucks since it always crashes and the trainer doesn't have any Bluetooth functionality. Any thoughts?

Tom,

I'm using Wahoo Kickr 2017 model bought it at NOW Fitness & Bikes. It has Bluetooth & ANT+ I really like it a lot I use it every night and logon to Zwift. I canceled my Lifttime Membership because I like Zwift so much it really feels like I'm ridding outside. I ride with people all over the country. On Zwift they support a lot of Smart Trainers like the ones you have mention.

I think I have it narrowed down to the Kickr or the Drivo. The guys at Grand Performance are keen on it. Say it’s quieter, but that’s not really an issue. What I want is a good training program and the Zwift type experience.

I should mention what kind of a computer you should be using

I have the minimum spec and it works pretty good I will be upgrading to a game machine but here are my current computer specs

i5-2400 3.1 Ghz
SSD Hard Drive
32 GB or ram or use 16 GB ram
Intel HD Video Card
Widows 7 Pro 64 Bit
100 GB Internet Connection

My new computer will have

i7-7700k 4.2 Ghz
Gigabyte GA Z370 Aorus Motherboard
16 GB Ram
M.2 Samsung 960 EVO 250 GB SSD Hard Drive
GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Video Card (This is important)
Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit

This new config will just add a better performance and better feel to the cycling experience. I hope this helps

Mike,

I got the Kickr and have set it up. I got it at Now Sports and Fitness. Good people. When I am cycling, the Kickr is a lot louder than what I heard in the store. Has this been your experience?
