Grand Rapids 2017 - 3 Days of Bicycling Adventures

July 7-9 2017 – Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Grand Rapids is back again this year. I hope you can join us for 3 days of scenic touring up on the Range. You don’t want to miss this great weekend of riding and socializing with all of your biking buddies. This year’s routes will feature Gilbert-Eveleth, Biwabik, Giants Ridge, Grand Rapids and Deer River. We will start this year’s ride on Friday again this year from Eveleth. For those coming up Friday morning the best route to Eveleth will be Interstate 35 North to Hwy 33 (the Cloquet cutoff), to 53 North to 37 East into Gilbert. If you are coming over from Grand Rapids it will be about an hour drive 60 miles.

Unfortunately one of the most scenic parts of the trail between Virginia and Eveleth is still shut down this year to make way for the new HWY 53 bridge and mining roads which will include a new paved trail which will boast the highest bicycle bridge around as it will span across the Rochleau mine pit with spectacular views. That segment will be closed until the later this summer. We will definitely have to check this out when it’s completed.

Mesabi Trail Wheel Pass Required (2-3 day Wheel Pass $5.00) you can obtain at trail heads or local merchants. Season Pass is $15 and it helps support trail maintenance. You can purchase on line as well at: http://shop.mesabitrail.com/home.php

There are a few options for lodging in town: http://www.visitgrandrapids.com/lodging/hotels/. Some notable hotels are the Country Inn, Super 8, AmericInn, & Timberlodge. There is also camping at the Pokegama Dam Campgrounds. I would recommend making reservations as soon as possible.
