We will ride as a group and do our level best to keep the group together at an "A" Pace. Please contact the leader if you are unsure about the pace. New Riders are always welcome. Road bike strongly encouraged for this time of year for our "A" pace. Routes and distance determined day of ride and sometimes on the ride itself as we are dictated by the level of the riders and weather conditions. We have routes to Scandia, Hudson, RiverFalls, New Richmond, Hastins, Chaska, Waconia, Elk River, Big Lake, Rogers and everywhere in between. Every week a different route. We may, on occasion, ride to the Northern Most parts of the metro and catch the NorthStar Commuter train back from Big Lake, or we may ride to another TCBC ride and join them for their ride. Turn right (south) on WI 35 after the bridge into Prescott from MN (61), then right on Monroe in a mile. You've heard the rumors, and the forecast looks like pain. Banned in most civilized countries, only whispered in others, HooP returns in '10 to grind its merciless carnage upon the worthy and unworthy alike. Nobody eludes the suffrage. Three medieval mileage options: bad, worse, and hors categorie. The 125 riders must provide advance notice so I can alert next of kin. No restrooms at the start; they are open in the Visitor Center after the ride, assuming you make it back. There is a petrol stations as you enter WI. Start the morning off with a nice ride that is not too early, but allows you to get in some miles before the heat of the day arrives. We will ride by some familiar lakes and there will be a couple of hills to for a challenge, but the ride is basically flat. Perfect for recovery or just a nice day out for a spin. Depart from Best Western, 650 Canyon Drive, Madison, WI. 40 mile in town loop goes through the scenic southern suburbs before circumnavigating Lake Monona and returning via the impressive, but now familiar arboretum. 1 SUN 10:00 AM B 29 mi. Rum and Coke (Coon Rapids). Depart from Riverdale Crossing shopping center near Eddington's and Dickies BBQ, 13111 Riverdale Drive Northwest, Coon Rapids, MN 55448. Ride roads, streets and trails north of Coon Rapids & Anoka along the west side of the Rum River to Rum River Central Park where we will ride the lengthy bike trail. Return along east side of the Rum River. This ride is similar to Rum and Doughnuts, but has a different start/finish & runs the opposite direction. The ride is equal parts trail, neighborhoods (zillionaire row) and open road and is quite scenic, especially in Rum River Central Park. After the ride, have a cola and soup/salad/sandwich at Eddington's, or a cola and some delicious BBQ at Dickies!! Park behind Eddington's / Dickies. 1 SUN 1:30 PM B/C 25 mi. Roseville West. Depart from Erik's Bike Shop, 2059 Snelling Ave. N. across from Har Mar Mall in Roseville. This ride incorporates several major downtown bike trails including the Greenway, Cedar Lake and Diagonal trails. We pass through bike-friendly areas of the U of M campus. The rest stop is at the unique Freewheel midtown bike center located on the Greenway trail. 1 SUN 2:00 PM B/C 27mi Down the River and Up the Creek (Brooklyn Park). Depart from Parking lot at Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, 10360 West River Road, in Brooklyn Park. Take highway 610 to Noble Pkwy; go north to 97th Ave; east to Russell Ave; then north to park entrance (Russell becomes W River Rd). This is the same ride as the North Hennepin Circle, only the start/end point has been changed (no need for a jog across busy Zane Blvd at start/finish of ride). A nice leisurely ride on the roads and trails of Brooklyn Park, Coon Rapids, Fridley, and Brooklyn Center. We'll start at the dam, cross over and head south on the Mississippi River Corridor bike trail, continue south to Webber, hook up with the Shingle Creek bike trail and head north, then east on a bike trail paralleling 85th Ave, and back north to our starting point. 2 MON 9:30 AM C 28 mi. Mendota to Eat Street. Depart from Big Rivers West Trailhead, Mendota Heights, MN. An easy, pretty flat, all-trail ride with a great lunch stop. Big Rivers West Trailhead parking lot, off Sibley Memorial Highway just northwest the intersection of Highway 13 and Mendota Heights Road in Mendota Heights. The ride will cross the Mendota bridge, follow the Minnehaha Trail around Lakes Harriet and Calhoun (with rest stop at Lake Harriet band shell), follow the Greenway east and exit on Nicollet for lunch at one of the diverse ethnic restaurants on “Eat Street” (Nicollet Ave.). Each Monday, we’ll choose a different restaurant. Then back to the Greenway, on to West River Road newly repaved path to Minnehaha Falls, Fort Snelling and back to the trailhead. 2 MON 10:00 AM B/C 31 mi. RIVERS' RETURN. Depart from Erik's Bike Shop, 2059 Snelling Ave. N. across from Har Mar Mall in Roseville. The route goes to St. Paul via Como Avenue and crosses the river on the Wabasha Bridge. It returns up the rivers by the Lilydale Road and Big Rivers Trail, over the Mendota Bridge to Fort Snelling and on to Minnehaha Park for a rest stop. From there it continues on up the river to the Stone Arch Bridge and finally back to Roseville on the Minneapolis Diagonal Trail. Turn right (Northeast) then left(north) on Vicksberg Lane, then left on 10th st. and follow signs to trailhead lot. Route includes portions of LRT and Luce Line (both packed limestone), using connecting Cty Rd 19 and North Shore Cty Rd 51. Penn Cycle sponsored Trek tour at the Waterloo plant (which I am told is normally only open to their dealers) promises to be a special treat. 3 TUE 9:30 AM A/B 26-73 MI. GATEWAY EXPRESS. Depart from Maplewood Community Center,2100 White Bear Ave., Maplewood, 55109. Please park at the south side of parking lot. Water and restrooms available at the Community Center. This ride features the Gateway Trail, a scenic, shaded, and little wind trail. The ride has extensions into scenic Washington County. The easiest ride is doing the Gateway Trail out to Pine Point and back-26 mi. A 73 mi. route to Osceola, WI., or other shorter routes. Ride leader choses which extensions to ride. This venerable ride continues on its familiar route. We'll hit all the hills we can find in St. Paul. Believe it or not, there are a few out there. This is a ride for all levels. 3 TUE 6:00 PM A/B 36/33/29/24 mi. THE ACAPULCO RIDE (Stillwater). Depart from Valley Ridge Mall, Stillwater. From I-694, go east 6.5 mi on Hwy 36. Left on Washington Ave. Prompt right on frontage road 1/4 mile to the Acapulco Restaurant, 1240 West Frontage Road, 55082. The Acapulco Ride offers a flat beginning and end with the lovely hills of Afton in between. We begin the ride at an easy pace for the first three miles to ensure a proper warm-up. In the intermediate group we will formally practice the finer points of group riding focusing on proper paceline etiquette and skills. Depart from CARS Bike Shop, 2661 West County Road I, Mounds View, MN 55112 - Behind the Burger King on the SW corner of County Road I and County Road 10 (not to be confused with US 10). Start your Wednesday on the north end of town with an invigorating ride past lotsa lakes. There are 3 mileage options at 34, 42 and 50 miles. All routes start and end at CARS Bike Shop. The routes begin east and north through the Rice Creek chain of lakes, and then turn south & east towards Bald Eagle & White Bear lakes before returning to CARS via Vadnais, Owasso, Valentine & Long lakes. Depart from Midtown Bike Center Freewheel bikes on the Midtown Greenway 10th Ave South and 29th Street Minneapolis. Group ride at a fast "A" pace. Usually, an easy shortcut provides a connection to the rest of the route for a shorter option. Great reststops and variations on the route. The ride will cross the Mendota bridge, follow the Minnehaha Trail around Lakes Harriet and Calhoun (with rest stop at Lake Harriet band shell), follow the Greenway east and exit on Nicollet for lunch at one of the diverse ethnic restaurants on “Eat Street” (Nicollet Ave.). 29 SUN 2:00 PM B/C 27mi Down the River and Up the Creek (Brooklyn Park). Depart from Parking lot at Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, 10360 West River Road, in Brooklyn Park. Take highway 610 to Noble Pkwy; go north to 97th Ave; east to Russell Ave; then north to park entrance (Russell becomes W River Rd). This is the same ride as the North Hennepin Circle, only the start/end point has been changed (no need for a jog across busy Zane Blvd at start/finish of ride). A nice leisurely ride on the roads and trails of Brooklyn Park, Coon Rapids, Fridley, and Brooklyn Center. We'll start at the dam, cross over and head south on the Mississippi River Corridor bike trail, continue south to Webber, hook up with the Shingle Creek bike trail and head north, then east on a bike trail paralleling 85th Ave, and back north to our starting point. 30 MON 9:30 AM C 28 mi. Mendota to Eat Street. Depart from Big Rivers West Trailhead, Mendota Heights, MN. An easy, pretty flat, all-trail ride with a great lunch stop. Big Rivers West Trailhead parking lot, off Sibley Memorial Highway just northwest the intersection of Highway 13 and Mendota Heights Road in Mendota Heights. The ride will cross the Mendota bridge, follow the Minnehaha Trail around Lakes Harriet and Calhoun (with rest stop at Lake Harriet band shell), follow the Greenway east and exit on Nicollet for lunch at one of the diverse ethnic restaurants on “Eat Street” (Nicollet Ave.). Each Monday, we’ll choose a different restaurant. Then back to the Greenway, on to West River Road newly repaved path to Minnehaha Falls, Fort Snelling and back to the trailhead. We will ride from Roseville to Lund's just west of Hopkins for brunch. The route will use many of the mostly-level trails we love to ride: Inter-Campus Transitway, LRT, Greenway, SW LRT (3/4 mile crushed limestone), North Cedar Lake (Hutchinson Spur), Cedar Lake, Kenwood, and the Minneapolis Diagonal Trail. Recover from the weekend rides on this route which is mainly flat, but with a few gradual climbs. Leaders will support an A/B level pace (16-17 mph avg). Ongoing construction at the Plaza will necessitate moving the normal meet location from time to time. Most likely we will be on the northeast side of the plaza. For directions, view the map on their website - http://www.pinetreeappleorchard-dot-com/. Experience the whole of the apple season this year with a weekly ride from one of the area's most popular orchards. We'll start at Pine Tree Orchard and ride around White Bear and Bald Eagle lakes before making our way eastward to Withrow before returning. Afterward, visit the Pine Tree bakery for a slice of the best apple pie in town, or one of their legendary apple rollovers. Take home a few apples, too. Do NOT park in the small lot in front of the main building. Instead, park on the other side of the road in their very large, grassy parking area. Left on Washington Ave. Prompt right on frontage road 1/4 mile to the Acapulco Restaurant, 1240 West Frontage Road, 55082. The Acapulco Ride offers a flat beginning and end with the lovely hills of Afton in between. We begin the ride at an easy pace for the first three miles to ensure a proper warm-up. In the intermediate group we will formally practice the finer points of group riding focusing on proper paceline etiquette and skills.
