1 MON 10:00 AM B/C 51 mi. LET'S GET TO THE (PINE) POINT. Depart from Erik's Bike Shop, 2059 Snelling Ave. N. across from Har Mar Mall in Roseville. We will ride from Erik's east on Arlington where we will pick up the Gateway Trail. We will follow it about 17 miles up to Pine Point for a short breather before continuing on down to the Bikery Bakery in Stillwater for refreshments. Then it's back to the Stillwater Road to Mahtomedi and bike-friendly streets and a little Bruce Vento Trail to Roseville. In Stillwater there is the chance to test your legs on Myrtle Hill or, if you already know the answer, you can follow the leader another way. 1 MON 10:30 AM A/B 29 mi. County Express. Depart from County Cycles 2700 Lexington Ave North Roseville, MN 55113. Join us for the latest version of the long running Pink/Orange Express. This is a classic city ride featuring such well-known lanes and trails in St. Paul and Minneapolis as Summit Ave, River Rd, the Greenway and the Transit Way. We will also pass by major Twin City landmarks like the State Capital, the St. Paul Cathedral the Stone Arch Bridge and the U of M campus. The rest stop will be at the unique and tasty Birchwood Cafe located just off the Greenway in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis. 2 TUE 10:00 AM A/B 26-73 mi. Gateway Express. Depart from Maplewood Community Center, 2100 White Bear Ave., Maplewood, 55109. Please park at the south side of parking lot. Water and restrooms available at the Community Center. This ride features the Gateway Trail, a scenic, shaded, and little wind trail. The ride has extensions into scenic Washington County. The easiest ride is doing the Gateway Trail out to Pine Point and back-26 mi. A 73 mi. route to Osceola, WI., or other shorter routes. Ride leader choses which extensions to ride. Turn left on Grove Lane, cross tracks and parking lot is on the right. We will bike from Wayzata to St. Bonifacius and have rest/lunch at Mackenthun’s and return. 2 TUE 4:30 PM A/B 24 mi. THE ACAPULCO RIDE (Stillwater). Depart from Valley Ridge Mall, Stillwater. From I-694, go east 6.5 mi on Hwy 36. Left on Washington Ave. Prompt right on frontage road 1/4 mile to the Acapulco Restaurant, 1240 West Frontage Road, 55082. ***Note early departure*** Leave work a bit early to vote and then make your way out to Stillwater for the last (?) Acapulco Ride of 2010. The forecast is looking just fine for a rare November Acapulco ride. A flat beginning and end with the lovely hills of Afton in between. We'll start out at an easy pace for the first three miles to ensure a proper warm-up. If rain (or snow!) is predicted, ride may be canceled at the leaders discretion, so call ahead if in doubt. Depart from CARS Bike Shop, 2661 West County Road I, Mounds View, MN 55112 - Behind the Burger King on the SW corner of County Road I and County Road 10 (not to be confused with US 10). Start your Wednesday on the north end of town with an invigorating ride past LOTSA lakes. The routes begin east and north through the Rice Creek chain of lakes, and then turn south & east towards Bald Eagle & White Bear lakes before returning to CARS Bike Shop via Vadnais, Owasso, Valentine & Long lakes. This will be a social ride along the Mississippi River and lakes of Minneapolis with a lunch stop enroute. Depart from OVERFLOW Parking lot (NOTE - NOW USING THE "SUMMER" PARKING LOT LOCATION!) for Erik's Bike Shop, across Texas Ave from the bike shop located at Minnetonka Blvd and Texas Ave (between 100 & 169) in St Louis Park. We'll ride mostly on paved trails, painted bicycle lanes and/or low-traffic roads in the west metro area. A little ride to stretch the legs or in addition to the 6:00 ride offering from the same location. No Rest Stop on this ride, rest is in between this ride and the 6:00 ride at Erik's. 3 WED 5:30 PM Night-B 24 mi. Midtown Challenge. Depart from Midtown Bike center on the Midtown greenway, 29th Ave and 10th street. Come out for the midtown challenge. The route will include a variety of downtown areas, from the Kenwood Hill to the Nicollet island hill. We will ride trails and low traffic roads. Night speeds have to be reduced, but will try to keep the heart rates higher by including hills. Single speeds are welcome. Front and rear lights mandatory. Depart from Erik's Bike Shop main parking lot in front of store located at 8006 Minnetonka Blvd, 55426, at Minnetonka Blvd and Texas Ave in St Louis Park. Ride mostly on paved (& plowed!) trails, maybe some painted bicycle lanes and/or low-traffic roads in the St Louis Park, Hopkins and Minneapolis area. 4 THU 10:00 AM B 31 mi. FREEWHEEL AROUND MEDICINE LAKE. Depart from Freewheel Midtown Bike Center on the Greenway Bike Trail, 2834-10th Ave. S., Minneapolis 55407 http://freewheelbike-dot-com/page.cfm?pageID=341. We'll bike west on the Midtown Greenway bike trail, up the west side of Cedar Lake to Theodore Wirth Park, west on the Luce Line Regional Trail, around Medicine Lake, back to Theodore Wirth Parkway on Glenwood Ave., then back to Freewheel on the trails we came out on. This ride, except for about three miles on Glenwood Ave., is virtually entirely on paved bike trails. Freewheel Bike Center is a TCBC sponsor. Best parking: Midtown Global Market ramp at 10th Av. S. & Lake St. Three hours' free parking with validation from Market. From ramp, bike north on 10th Av. S., across bridge & right down to trail. Freewheel is on right (west). Although Freewheel Midtown Bike Center can't validate your parking ramp ticket, they offer, in addition to bikes, accessories and bike repairs, sandwiches, pastries and other goodies for sale. 6 SAT 8:00 AM A 40-60+ mi. Dunn Early - Group, Mapless. Depart from Dunn Bros coffee East Lake St and W River Road Minneapolis. We will ride as a group and do our level best to keep the group together at an "A" Pace. Please contact the leader if you are unsure about the pace. New Riders are always welcome. Road bike strongly encouraged until the snow begins to fall. Routes and distance determined day of ride and sometimes on the ride itself as we are dictated by the level of the riders and weather conditions. We have routes to Scandia, Hudson, RiverFalls, New Richmond, Hastins, Chaska, Waconia, Elk River, Big Lake, Rogers and everywhere in between. Every week a different route and we may ride to another TCBC ride and join them for their ride. We will ride from Roseville to Emily's just south of the Memorial Parkway in Minneapolis. The route will include the Minneapolis Diagonal Trail, Memorial Parkway, and St. Anthony Parkway. Depart from North end of Walmart Parking Lot (in front of Wendy's). 94 East to Wisconsin Exit 2, turn south on Carmichael, turn west on Crestview, Walmart 1/4 mile on south side of road. Join your biking buddies for a fall ride in north eastern St. Croix County Wisconsin. The terrain is gently rolling hills. The ride will give you scenery, lake side views and plenty of country side. Sundays in November will have a MAPPED option, the mapped route will be 45-55 miles. Our goal is to finish before noon, so you will have plenty of time for lawn work, football, and lunch. The "leaders A" group may take deviations from the map for additional mileage. Last week we did 45 miles at 17.5 mph, nothing blistering. There will be common rest stops. Fall is here, but don't let the cooler weather put a damper on your weekend riding. Come on out on these crisp fall days and enjoy some riding around familiar lakes with a few hills tossed in for some extra fun. Weather will dictate route and distance. I think we will do a mix of the original route I used to do and pieces of other people's routes that are great roads I love. Generally, we'll head east and try to avoid stoplights and lots of turns. 28 TUE 11:00 AM A/B 15-25 mi. Winter Warmup. Depart from Lynnhurst Park in Minneapolis, West 50th and Minnehaha Parkway, just south of Lake Harriet. Don't let winter keep you from riding! 29 WED 5:30 PM Night-B 25 mi. Midtown Challenge Group- Mapless. Depart from Midtown Freewheel Bike Center 10th Ave South and 29th Street Minneapolis.. on the Greenway. Winter riding on cycle cross bikes over the river and through the woods to where ever the best challenges are for a night ride. A very good chance of climbing some hills to break a sweat and keep those legs in shape throughout the winter. Lights required on front and back so we can see who is naughty or nice. 29 WED 6:00 PM mi. SLP-SKI'ing Out (French Regional Park). Depart from French Regional Park, 12605 Rockford Road, Plymouth, MN 55441 - Visitor Center parking lot. Well, with all the snow, how about some cross-country skiing with your biking buddies? Let's try French Regional Park's lighted trail system, and see how it goes. Here is info from Three Rivers Parks website as of 12/22 - Cross-country ski trail conditions: All trails are packed and in GOOD condition for both skating and traditional skiing. Visitor Center is open and rentals are available 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM. Lights are on until 10:00 PM. Sliding Hill is OPEN. Winter trail map (dotted trails are lighted) at http://www.threeriversparks-dot-org/~/media/Maps/PDFs/Park%20Detail/Winter/french_winter.ashx A cross-country ski pass is required for skiers age 12 and older from December 1–March 31. (Minnesota Ski Passes are not required in Three Rivers Parks). Daily ski passes ($4) are available at trailhead pay boxes, Three Rivers visitor centers, and ski chalets. Season ski passes are $50 available online and at visitor center. There is no Bike Mileage Credit and no TCBC Insurance for this non-bicycling activity. 31 FRI 6:00 PM Night-C 20-25 mi. NEW YEARS FUNK. Depart from Sunrise Cyclery, 901 W Lake St (SW corner of Bryant & Lake), Minneapolis. Come join us for the last TCBC event of 2010. A mapless urban social ride on bike lanes and paved trails in the heart of the Twin Cities. Bring a friend, see the sights. Rest stop(s). Bike lights front and rear required. Also, studded tires highly recommended when it's icy. New riders welcome. Mileage may vary depending on the weather.
