2-3 CRUISIN' THE COULEES OVERNIGHT. A/B. Meet at 10 AM both days. This was so much fun in May that we've chosen to offer the event again in the fall by popular demand! The Saturday ride will depart at 10:30 AM from Pepin, Wisconsin. Pepin is about 70 scenic miles southeast of the Twin Cities on WI. Hwy. 35. Park on 1st Street along the river front by the Harbor View Restaurant. It will be 65 miles but a shorter option of perhaps 50 to 55 miles is in the works. Let's dine in style that evening at the famous Harbor View. (Great food but they do not accept credit cards). We will stay overnight in Pepin. The Sunday ride will depart from Alma, Wis. at 10:30 AM. Options of 65, 58 and 44 miles with the first 27 miles in common on this day. Alma is about 16 miles south of Pepin on Hwy. 35. Meet and park on Main St. (WI. 35) on the north end of town near Lock and Dam # 4. A fine breakfast can be had at the Pier 4 Cafe at 600 North Main St. in Alma next to the Lock and Dam. The leaders will meet there to eat about 9 AM. Please join us. Both days feature beautiful back roads into the hills and dales of Wisconsin's famed "coulee country". Hills you say? You betcha! On the long 65-mile routes we'll climb about 3,400 feet on Saturday and nearly a mile (5,100 feet) on Sunday. And be forewarned...we'll encounter the infamous "Col de County PP" with up to a 16% grade on Saturday! So bring your "lean and mean" legs and "I love altitude" attitude for a cycling experience like no other. Please check the web page at http://home.comcast.net/~bicyclebill/coulees/ for lodging options in Pepin and further info. Leaders: Bob Hoffman, Bill Simon & Rebecca Lawrence.
