3 FRI LET'S RIDE BRAINERD. A/B 35+ Mi. There will be options for additional miles by riding more of the Paul Bunyan Trail. We will depart at 2:00 PM from the Paul Bunyan Trailhead in Baxter. Our route will start out on the trail and then we will venture out on to some of the area back roads. Directions to the Trailhead in Baxter: From Brainerd, go west on State Highway 210 about 3/4 mile. Turn north (right) on State Highway 371 to the first stoplight (Excelsior Road). 4 SAT ELM CREEK "EASE INTO BIKING" SERIES. C 20 mi. Depart at 9:30 AM from the west side of the parking lot of the Holiday gas station, 109th Ave N and Douglas Dr in Champlin. A friendly set of 6 Saturday morning rides (June 4, 11, 18, 25) exploring the North Hennepin Corridor Trail between the Coon Rapids Dam and Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove. >From I-694, take Hwy 252 north 3.4 miles to the new Hwy 610 and get in LEFT lane. Turn left (west) on Hwy 610 for 3 miles, then right (north) on Zane Ave N/County Road 14 for 1.6 miles. Zane becomes Douglas Drive. At 109th Ave N, turn right into Holiday lot. If coming from the west, from I-694 go north on Hwy 169 for 5.1 miles, turn right at the lights on 109th Ave N for 1.6 miles, then left into the Holiday at Douglas Dr. Newer riders encouraged; all social riders welcome. 4 SAT B RIDE WITH SOME HILLS. B 30 mi. Leave at 10:00 AM from the bottom of Crosby Farm Road in Crosby Farm Park, along the Mississippi River in St. Paul. Turn left on Washington Ave (first stoplight past the Hwy. 5 overpass). Take an immediate right on the frontage road (by Anderson Windows) for 1/4 mile to the Valley Ridge Mall and Acapulco Restaurant on the left. The trailhead is at the Osakis Information Center, Main Street and Central Avenue, with parking a block north and then left by the gazebo. We'll bike from Osakis to Garfield, have lunch, and return. 18 SAT SECOND ANNUAL MINI SINGLE / DOUBLE BUNYAN RIDE. An A/B distance ride at a C pace. A 100 km (62 mi) and/or a 200 km (124 mi) ride (single or double loop around Mille Lacs Lake). This ride has also been known as "The Poor Man’s Double Century Ride". We will depart from Wahkon - about 5 miles west of Isle - at the southeastern corner of Mille Lacs Lake. We'll start early, and have all day to ride around this very scenic lake. The route is flatter than a proverbial pancake. Rest stops at Garrison (Spotlight Svoboda Cafe) and Malmo. From Hwy 169, exit at South Riverfront Drive (first exit after crossing Minnesota River from north), then left (east) on River Front Dr, then right into the school parking lot between West St and Dewey St. Principal Brian Gersich has authorized use of parking lot and welcomes TCBC. We'll bike the Red Jacket Trail and some of the South Route Trail. The Red Jacket Trail has several hills and lots of curves on its way to Rapidan. The South Route Trail intersects Red Jacket East and West. These special category rides are non-TCBC rides that are eligible for TCBC mileage credit, but are not covered by TCBC insurance. Outreach rides are designed to increase our members’ visibility in and support of non-pledge biking events in the broader biking community. A TCBC leader will be present at qualifying Outreach Rides to give a ride briefing and allow members to sign up for mileage, but it is the sole responsibility of participating members to sign up for and pay the registration fee for the event. The organizers of the event are solely responsible for its quality and safety. Members are strongly encouraged to wear their TCBC jerseys when participating in Outreach Rides. SATURDAY, JUNE 4. TOUR OF LAKES. 41 or 70 miles. Tour of Lakes (TOL), sponsored by the Paul Bunyan Cyclists, is an event ride in the Brainerd area. Depart at 7 am from the registration area (Hallett Community Center – 479 8th St NE) in Crosby, MN. Experience the beautiful Brainerd Lakes area as you ride past lakes and forests on low traffic rolling to flat terrain on your choice of a 41- or 70-mile route. The tour is known for its plentiful and varied rest stops: two on the 41-mile route and four on the 70-mile route! You will DEFINITELY not be in “calorie deficit” mode after this ride!
Pre-registration is required by MAY 1. TOL does NOT accept registrations postmarked after that date and consequently no “day of ride” registration is available. Cost is $22 and includes ride support, rest stops, and a t-shirt. You must be registered for the ride and attend the ride briefing in order to get mileage credit. Wear your TCBC jersey if you have one! There will be a post-TOL ride in the area on Sunday--see the ride listings for further information. JUNE 11-12 (SAT-SUN): TOMRV (Tour of the Mississippi River Valley). Mileage options (Sat/Sun) are 106/86 and 65/41. TOMRV, sponsored by the Quad Cities Bicycle Club, is a 2-day event ride starting in Bettendorf, Iowa or Preston, Iowa (depending on which mileage option you choose) en route to Dubuque and then back along a different route. Ride past Midwest farmlands on the winding, low-traffic roads of the area with many views of the Mississippi River: along it, over it on bridges and through it on causeways. The beauty of the challenging yet scenic roads along the glacier-carved river valley is all around you on TOMRV! The small towns, friendly people, scenery, challenging riding, and food make TOMRV a must-do tour!
The longer mileage option (106 Sat/86 Sun) starts in and returns to Bettendorf and the shorter mileage option (65 Sat/41 Sun) starts in and returns to Preston, with both options spending Saturday night in Dubuque. There is an unsupported century loop option available on Sunday. Depart at 7 AM both days: Saturday from the registration area in Bettendorf (contact leader if starting in Preston) and Sunday from the ride start in Dubuque.
Cost is $58 and includes ride support, rest stops, a t-shirt, and a banquet Saturday night. You must be registered for the ride and attend the ride briefing in order to get mileage credit. JUNE 18 SAT OUTREACH RIDE: HORRIBLY HILLY HUNDREDS CHALLENGE RIDE. 62 and 125 mi. 7:00 AM mass start or start after main pack until 7:30 AM. Two challenging options await the cycling enthusiast: 100 kilometers and 200 kilometers, each with total elevation gains that make your heart race and your legs cry "uncle." Set in southwest Wisconsin, the route starts in the charming village of Blue Mounds. The course is hilly - horribly hilly - and manages to find every famous climb in the area ending with a 3.5 mile, 900 ft climb up tortuous Mounds Park Road, into the park and all the way to the top of the Mound. The route is dotted by food stops, water stations, bathroom facilities, and is clearly marked to keep you from returning to Minnesota.
Cost is $50, which includes ride support, a T-shirt and a post-ride party. You must be registered for the ride and attend the ride briefing in order to get mileage credit. SATURDAY, JUNE 25 JORDAN VALLEY BIKE TOUR. TCBC credit for the 50-mile Monty Marathon. Tour also offers 12, 20 and 30 mi options. Pedal through the picturesque Minnesota River Valley with its hills and peaceful countryside. For those who rode the 62-mile IRONMAN, here is your opportunity to ride in the beautiful area that the 100-milers experienced. Plan on a full day and with food and entertainment after the ride. The Jordan JC's are sponsoring their 2nd Annual "Pork in the Park Celebration" and "Jordan Art Festival" in Lagoon Park.
