JANUARY 2006

1 SUN POLAR BEAR RIDE. A/B/C 12 mi. Leave at 12:15 PM from the SW corner of St. Paul Sears, at I-94 and Marion St. Down Summit Avenue to the Mississippi and back. Includes a lunch stop at the Green Mill as usual. Severe weather may cancel this ride. If in doubt, call perennial leader Bob Hoffman.


3 TUE WINTER WARM-UP. A/B 15-25 mi. Depart at 11 AM from Lynnhurst Park in Minneapolis, W. 50th and Minnehaha Parkway, just south of Lake Harriet. Don't let winter keep you from riding! Route & mileage varies depending on the weather. Most routes include a lunch stop at the Birchwood Café. Jim Joy.

4 WED ROLLERDOME RAMPAGE. (Non-TCBC: Indoor Rollerblading Social Event). Meet at 6:00 PM at the HHH Metrodome. Both Upper and Lower Concourses open for blading. Admission $6.50, equipment rental $5. Beginners welcome, free in-line skating instruction provided by RollerDome. Free coat and bag check, and free use of protective gear (although you might want to bring your own biking helmet instead of using theirs). Free parking at Gate D off 5th St & 11th Ave.. 7 SAT SNOWSHOE OR HIKE. Meet at 10:00 AM at Lebanon Hills Regional Park, Apple Valley / Eagan at the Visitor Center / Schulze Lake. Take Hwy 35E to Eagan. Exit on Cliff Rd (CR 32), E on Cliff Rd, 3.2 mi to Schulze Lake trailhead. Snowshoes are available for rent to use on the trail. Adult Package - three hours-$ 8.00. You may call the park at (651) GET INFO for additional information. You may also bring your own equipment. Short and long route options are available. Bring your own snacks/bag lunch/beverage for afterwards where we may gather in front of the fireplace in the Visitor Center. Herb Schultz, or Clint & Catherine Fritter .

7 SAT SKI: WILD RIVER STATE PARK. 50-km variety of beginning to advanced trails in the wonderful wintry woods. Heated trail center with concessions. Bring a bag lunch. Meet at the trail center around 10:15 AM. Park entrance fee. Doug Nelson.

7 SAT WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' WINTER. B 15-35 mi. Depart at 1 PM from the Perkins just off I-35W on County Road D in New Brighton. Route distance will roughly equal the temperature at ride start time. In denial about winter? Let's pretend it isn't happening and keep on riding. Our topic can range anywhere from cycling to planning more cycling trips, or just what is new in Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, or anything you wish to talk about. Coffee, bagels und fancy desserts are to die for. They also serve soup und sandwiches. What are you waiting for? Come und join us for some great TCBC camaraderie and fellowship. Any questions? 28 SAT BRRR, LET'S RIDE. B 15-30 mi. Depart at 1:30 PM. Just because its winter doesn't mean we shouldn't ride. Riding a bike in the snow, slush, ice & cold can be lots of fun! Plan to meet at Mendota Plaza, Hwy 110 & Dodd Road in Mendota Heights (less than 1 mile east of I-35E on Hwy 110). Length of ride is generally 28 miles though may be shortened due to the weather. 9 THU BIKE U – TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE MOVIE NIGHT. Begin dessert potluck at 7:00 PM, Showtime at 7:30 at Longfellow Community Center in South Minneapolis (3435 - 36th Ave S – Hwy 55 to 35th Street, east to Community Center). Come see this unusual, yet strangely charming French animated movie about a boy and his bike. Nominated for 2 Academy Awards (Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song), this is a cultural feast that is not to be missed!

26 SUN SNOWSHOE OR HIKE THEN EAT. Meet at 1:30 PM at Minnesota Valley Wildlife Refuge Center at 3815 E 80th St. (952) 854-5900. We will snowshoe or hike. Take 34th Ave exit from Hwy 494 (Bloomington) South to American Blvd East, turn left (east) and follow American Blvd E, which becomes 80th E. Snowshoes are available for use on the trail but you need to call the Center around three days prior to reserve your set at no charge. You may also bring your own equipment. Short and long route options are available. A six-inch snow pack is required for use of their equipment. After event eating is scheduled at IKEA for their Swedish meatballs and lingonberry pop.
