Cruisin' the Coulees Overnight

A/B 65 miles on Saturday and options of 44, 58 or 65 mi. on Sunday. Meet at Reick's Lake Park near Alma, WI. at 10 am on Saturday (10:30 ride departure). Alma is about 80 miles southeast of the Twin Cities on WI. Hwy. 35. Reick's Lake Park is app. two miles north of Alma on the left side of southbound Hwy. 35. (Just south of the intersection of 35 and Co. Rd. I) We'll embark on a most beautiful ride into the hills and dales of Wisconsin's famed coulee country. To elaborate, a COULEE is defined as "a steep ravine". These rides will TRAVERSE many coulees. (def. as "across, over or through"). These coulees will command your full ATTENTION. (def. as "concentration of the mental powers upon an object"). You will be in AWE of these coulees. (def. as "An emotion of mingled reverence, dread and wonder"). To be sure, bring your "I love hills" attitude! Dinner, perhaps playing a player piano and exploring the quaint streets of Alma will be the evenings fare. After a hearty breakfast Sunday morning, we'll seek out an equally pleasant route. You can choose from three mileage options and they all have the first 27 miles or so in common. The emphasis will be on group riding and not on speed so don't be afraid to give these rides a try. Saturday night lodging options can be obtained at this website: http://www.almawisconsin.com/. You are responsible for arranging your own accommodations.
Leaders: Bob Hoffman, Simon, Rebecca Lawrence.

Hey C riders (and friends of C riders)! We hope you can join us for a weekend in Duluth. Come on up and enjoy this beautiful city on the shores of Gitchi Gumi (aka Lake Superior). For those who want to combine shopping, sightseeing, and biking, there is an art fair Sat and Sun at Park Point and, one of my favorite things, opportunity to watch the big ocean ships come into the harbor under Aerial Lift Bridge at Canal Park. And of course, restaurants, lake walks, art galleries, bookstores, and coffee shops. For visitor info, 1-800-438-5884 or www.visitduluth.com or call Herb Schultz or Clareyse Nelson or Mary Nelson (our “ride ambassador”).

Cruisin' the Coulees Overnight

A/B. Meet at 10 AM both days. This was so much fun in May that we've chosen to offer the event again in the fall by popular demand! The Saturday ride will depart at 10:30 AM from Pepin, Wisconsin. Pepin is about 70 scenic miles southeast of the Twin Cities on WI. Hwy. 35. Park on 1st Street along the river front by the Harbor View Restaurant. It will be 65 miles but a shorter option of perhaps 50 to 55 miles is in the works. Let's dine in style that evening at the famous Harbor View. (Great food but they do not accept credit cards). We will stay overnight in Pepin. The Sunday ride will depart from Alma, Wis. at 10:30 AM. Options of 65, 58 and 44 miles with the first 27 miles in common on this day. Alma is about 16 miles south of Pepin on Hwy. 35. Meet and park on Main St. (WI. 35) on the north end of town near Lock and Dam # 4. A fine breakfast can be had at the Pier 4 Cafe at 600 North Main St. in Alma next to the Lock and Dam. The leaders will meet there to eat about 9 AM. Please join us. Both days feature beautiful back roads into the hills and dales of Wisconsin's famed "coulee country". Hills you say? You betcha! On the long 65-mile routes we'll climb about 3,400 feet on Saturday and nearly a mile (5,100 feet) on Sunday. And be forewarned...we'll encounter the infamous "Col de County PP" with up to a 16% grade on Saturday! So bring your "lean and mean" legs and "I love altitude" attitude for a cycling experience like no other. Leaders: Bob Hoffman, Bill Simon & Rebecca Lawrence.
