Cruisin' the Coulees Overnight

SAT 9:30 AM & SUN 9:30 AM. A/B

Come ride "C the C" and see the sights. Stay overnight, or come down for a day. Hey, it's all OK! Some of the most beautiful cycling roads in the Mid-west are found right here in the "coulee country" of southwest Wisconsin. Challenging hills and spectacular vistas, great training for mountain tours.

The Saturday ride options of 74, 60 (or 57 less hilly) miles will depart from Pepin, WI at 9:30 AM. Pepin is about 70 scenic miles southeast of the Twin Cities on WI Hwy 35. Once in Pepin, turn right on Prairie St., then proceed two blocks to 1st St. Turn left and park straight ahead in the lot along the R.R. tracks opposite the Pickle Factory Restaurant. After the ride, enjoy a fine group dinner to carbo load for Sunday's journey. For overnighters, stay at the Pepin Motel (715) 442-2012. A block of rooms are reserved under the name of Rebecca Lawrence until May10. But act fast as they will go quickly!

On Sunday morning, we'll drive 15 miles south of Pepin on Hwy. 35 to Alma, Wisconsin. Let's gather around 8-ish for a great breakfast at the Pier 4 Cafe, 600 N. Main St. in Alma. It's located one block north of the Lock and Dam #4 parking lot. After breakfast, you'll have a choice of 82, 70 or 42 miles, (most choose the 70) departing from the Lock and Dam lot in Alma at 9:30 AM. Please park on the street, not in the lot. These two days are all about social group riding, not speed. We'll average around 15 mph in the main pack. Both days will feature sit down lunch stops.

But be forewarned! As past participants will tell you, riding these roads, especially when they tilt downwards, may produce serious side effects, including, but not limited to a profound sense of euphoria, over-excitement, or even a permanent grin on your face! So call, E-mail or text all your cycling friends. Cajole, tease them, simply do whatever it takes to convince them to join you. Then, make tracks to the wonderful land of beer and cheese for a most memorable weekend!!!

Any questions? Call Bob Hoffman 651-430-2676, Tony Wanschura 651-224-8360 or Rebecca Lawrence 612-481-4145.

4th Annual Tour of Lakes Bicycle Ride Weekend

Mark your calendars for June 6-8, 2008 (Fri-Sun) for a weekend of biking in the beautiful Brainerd Lakes area!  If you’ve never biked in this area before, you are going to love it!  The roads are low-traffic and very scenic, passing by many area lakes and forests.  The Paul Bunyan trail is also nearby.  We’ll do rides all three days.  The rides on Friday & Sunday will be regular “TCBC” A/B and B rides and the ride on Saturday will be a TCBC Outreach Ride---the Tour of Lakes ride, my all-time favorite 1-day ride!  Plan to not only bike with the group, but eat, socialize, and relax by the lake and around the campfire with us as well at Good Ol’ Days Resort!  I hope to see you there!!! Jul 11-14

Swiss Cheese and Spotted Cows

Please join us on a four day point-to-point TCBC ride from July 11-14 featuring the best of south central Wisconsin’s Driftless area---an area missed by the glaciers of many years ago resulting in rolling hills, hidden valleys and unspoiled natural beauty.  Cycle on quiet, pastoral country lanes dotted with small farms and enjoy the Scandinavian, Swiss and Cornish heritages of the quaint communities we travel to.

The tour starts and ends in Spring Green, WI---Frank Lloyd Wright country---with overnight motel stays in Spring Green, New Glarus, Monroe and Mineral Point, most of which are listed in Midwest Living’s Best Small-Town Getaways.  Come early or stay late to enjoy the many attractions Spring Green has to offer such as Taliesin, the world-renowned American Players Theatre and the Wright-inspired House on the Rock.

The rides are A/B level and average 50-60 miles/day on gently rolling to rolling terrain, with several rest stops at local bakeries, chocolate and cheese shops en route!  The trip aims to capture the scenery and points of interest of the area while avoiding the tough climbs prevalent therein.  The focus is on FUN and TOURING!
