West River Parkway, adjacent trails, closed from 4th Street to Franklin Ave

West River Parkway and the adjacent pedestrian trail, from 4th Street South to Franklin Ave, are closed following a mudslide along the hillside of West River Parkway during last night’s heavy sudden rain. The mudslide is located north of, and close to, the site of the 2014 mudslide. An onsite assessment will continue in the morning to better assess the damage.
Updates will be sent as more information becomes available.

West River Parkway, adjacent trails, have reopened

West River Parkway and the adjacent pedestrian trail, from 4th Street South to Franklin Ave., have reopened.

An onsite assessment determined that the event was not a mudslide, but limited soil displacement.

As a precautionary measure, concrete barriers have been be placed above the curb along the west side of the parkway.

Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board staff will continue to monitor this area through visual inspections for the coming weeks and, in particular, following significant rain events.
